Parish Events
Upcoming Events at St. Vincent's
and in our Community:
Tuesday, Aug. 3 from 7:00—8:30 pm - PRE-BAPTISM SESSION
All couples intending to present a child for Baptism must first have attended a pre-Baptism session. If it has been over three years since attending a class, you are required to take the class again. The session will be held from 7:00—8:30 pm, in the E. Mtg Room. Registration required – call the Parish Office at 425-2210. Babysitting is NOT available.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE CATHOLIC?
Part of the answer is that you take the responsibility to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. This may take the form of volunteering to minister to the children in our Faith Formation programs. We still need many catechists at all levels. Please consider volunteering to teach this coming fall. Please call 763-425-2210 to volunteer or to have your questions answered. You may team teach or teach alone. Many of our teachers have taught for many years. Have you ever thought about teaching? If so, we would like to hear from you.
Aug. 5 & 19 -- SENIOR HIGH YOUTH NIGHTS
Throughout the summer we will have a few nights to get together, eat some food, hang out, play games, watch movies or whatever else we feel like doing. These nights are open to anyone going into 9-12 grade in the Fall. We will be meeting at St. Vincent from 7-9 pm! Bring a friend or two and come!

Upon receipt of your order form and donation, a small group of teens and adults will place a flock of flamingos in the requested friend’s front yard from Monday — Friday (flamingos rest on weekends). Birds and signs will be delivered during the hours of 8 am-8 pm on the day requested (depending upon the availability of the flock), and will remain in the yard for no more than 48 hours.

Thursday, August 12th - BOOK CLUB
The Book Club always welcomes new members. Come check us out at our next meeting on Thursday, August 12th, from 9:30 – 10:30 AM in the West Mtg Room. Childcare is provided upon request by contacting Suzanne at 612-599-8954. Our next selection is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, by Betty Smith. Francie Nolan, avid reader, penny candy connoisseur and observer of human nature, has much to ponder in colorful, turn of the century Brooklyn. She grew up with a sweet, tragic father, a severely realistic mother and a brother who was always the favorite child. Francie learns early the meaning of hunger and the value of a penny. She is her father’s child – romantic and hungry for beauty. But she is her mother’s child, too – deeply practical and in constant need of truth. Like the tree of heaven that grows out of cement or through cellar gratings, resourceful Francie struggles against all odds to survive and thrive. Come and discover Betty Smith’s poignant, honest novel, her frank writing about life’s squalor. The book’s humor and pathos has ensured its place in the realm of classics.
Friday, Aug. 13 - DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR SENIOR LUNCH.

Tickets for the drawing may be returned to church beginning after all Masses this weekend.
We’re always welcoming new committee members to help in the planning and coordination of the festival (and to learn how we do it for future years). We need booth leaders/volunteer coordinators in several areas, including Silent Auction, Chicken Dinner, Inflatables, and more. Please contact Adam Phenow at 763-561-0248 for information on our next meeting.

Sept. 15 - Deadline to REGISTER FOR FAITH FORMATION
Registration forms were recently mailed. This mailing contained important information and registration forms regarding Sunday Pre-School, Elementary, Junior and Senior High programs. Please read the material carefully. Please don’t forget to sign the back of the registration form—“Expectations for Completion of Faith Formation Levels 1-10,” if you have children in levels 1-10. Please note the elementary schedule change on Tuesdays. Please be aware of the early bird tuition on/before August 31, the yellow volunteer sheet (we need hundreds of volunteers to staff our programs), and the registration deadline date of Sept. 15.
Monday, Sept. 20 - Deadline to register for ADULT BIBLE STUDY
The Great Adventure continues with Psalms: The School of Prayer. The Great Adventure moves from telling the story to making it personal. While the historical books of the Bible recount God’s creative and redemptive acts of history, the Psalms reveal Israel’s response to God’s covenant and serve as a model for our response to God.
This eleven week DVD/small group discussion Bible study will start on Oct. 4. This study will be offered on Monday afternoons from noon to 1:45 in the West Meeting Room and Monday evenings from 7-8:45 in Regan Hall. Cost is $25/person for binder with study set questions and responses and for shared cost of the DVD set. Psalms: The School of Prayer is by Jeff Cavins, Dr. Tim Gray, and Sarah Christmyer. Registration is planned for the weekends of Sept. 11-12, 18-19, after all Masses and at the Parish Office the week of Sept. 13. Deadline to register is Monday, Sept. 20.
Four major parish events occur every year:
- The Cana Dinner is held every winter.
- The Auction for Education is held every spring and has become one of the major fundraising events at St. Vincent de Paul. The tentative date for 2010 is Saturday, April 17.
- The Harvest Festival is the parish's major fund raising event held each year on the 2nd weekend in August.
- The Christmas Bazaar, held the first weekend in December, is a fund raising project of the Council of Catholic Women (CCW).
